Mackenzie Blackwood's strong campaign has hit a roadblock.
The Colorado Avalanche placed the netminder on injured reserve Friday and recalled forward Taylor Makar and goalie Trent Miner from the AHL. Meghan Angley of Guerrilla Sports reported that Blackwood suffered a lower-body injury.
It's unclear when Blackwood sustained the injury, but he did not skate at practice on Thursday as Colorado prepared for a three-game road trip, per Guerrilla Sports' Jesse Montano.
Blackwood last played on Wednesday in a 6-1 win over the St. Louis Blues.
In 16 games this season, the 29-year-old Blackwood boasts a 13-1-1 record with a 2.07 goals-against average (GAA) and .924 save percentage.
Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood have combined to form one of the NHL's strongest goalie tandems this season, playing a major role in the Avalanche's 30-2-7 start.
Miner will step into Blackwood's spot for the second time this season. With Blackwood beginning the year on the IR, Miner made two appearances for the Avalanche, stopping 40 of the 44 shots he faced.
In 10 AHL games with the Colorado Eagles this season, Miner owns a 2.40 GAA and .907 save percentage.
Makar, meanwhile, continues his season bouncing between levels. He went pointless in his three previous games with the Avalanche.
The younger brother of Avalanche standout Cale, Taylor has six goals and four assists in 26 games with the Eagles, as well.
